There are so many tasks that must get done to prepare for Vacation Bible School. From choosing the curriculum to recruiting leaders and helpers to decorating the church, and a million steps in between, there are so many things to accomplish!
One of the most important things we can do to prepare for Vacation Bible School is to be in prayer for VBS. Being in prayer, and asking others to pray, is a crucial part of preparing a God-honoring VBS.

Prayer for VBS: 7 Prayer Points for Vacation Bible School
These prayer points are prayer requests, paired with a Scripture, for Vacation Bible School.
They are great for leading a prayer time, texting to your prayer warriors, or handing out to people who would like to volunteer for VBS but don’t have the time or energy to do so.

- Ask God to prepare hearts, that the children would accept this free gift of salvation. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
- Pray for the strength for the Vacation Bible School workers. “But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
- Pray that the children will know that God loves them and is offering them salvation. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:3-4
- Pray for children to find their hope in Christ. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3
- Ask God for physical protection over Vacation Bible School. “For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:11-12
- Pray for opportunities to share Jesus with the next generation. “One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.” Psalm 145:4
- Pray that the Bible verses the children learn will take root in their hearts, guiding them throughout their lives and transforming them from the inside out. “Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that each person who belongs to God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Prayer for VBS
If you want to pray for Vacation Bible School, on your own or maybe in a group setting like a VBS team meeting or a worship service, here is an example prayer that you can use for inspiration.
Dear God,
We ask You to prepare the hearts of the children who will attend VBS, that they would receive the free gift of salvation through Jesus, and grow in You. Help them to know how deeply You love them and that You desire for them to walk in truth.
Give strength to every VBS worker—renew their energy and fill them with joy. Protect our time together; cover the children and volunteers with Your safety.
Lord, open doors to share Jesus with this next generation, and may the hope of Christ take root in every heart. Let the Scriptures the children learn stay with them, guiding and transforming their lives for Your glory.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
