Motherhood is a journey filled with both joyful moments and challenging seasons. While we often celebrate the highlights—baby’s first steps, school achievements, or family milestones—mothers also navigate sleepless nights, difficult parenting decisions, and seasons of uncertainty.
As a church leader, volunteer, or staff member, you have the opportunity to support and uplift the mothers in your congregation through prayer.
Whether you are praying for a mom in your church, leading a Mother’s Day prayer, or encouraging a group of women in a Bible study or women’s ministry setting, these powerful prayer points for mothers can help guide your prayers.
Take time to lift up the moms in your community, trusting that God hears and answers. Be sure to check out the free printable prayer sheets at the end, for a ready-to-go prayer time!
Powerful Prayer Points for Mothers
These prayer points each have a corresponding Bible verse. Praying Scripture helps us pray according to God’s priorities, and not just our own.
We’ll cover four themes: strength in parenting, God’s protection over children, a parent’s (or grandparent’s) peace of mind, and a legacy of faith.
These are useful themes for personal quiet time, mother’s prayer groups, women’s ministry groups, Mother’s Day events, and praying with friends and family members.
But they are also just good options for parents in general. To be more versatile, the word mother or mom isn’t used, just parent, so these prayer points can be used for dads as well. We will also have a Father’s Day themed post with more prayer points for parents.

Strength in Parenting
Pray for God to equip you or someone you know as a parent.
Pray for godly direction, and for children to remember it, no matter the age. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Ask God for faithful and diligent direction for children. “These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Pray for wisdom in parenting, and to not be a stumbling block or a discouragement. “Fathers, don’t provoke your children, so that they won’t be discouraged.” Colossians 3:21
Ask God for joy in parenting. “Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They won’t be disappointed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127:3-5 WEBBE
Pray for God’s grace in parenting. “He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
God’s Protection Over Children
It’s hard not to worry about kids! Use these prayer points to pray God’s protection over children.
Pray for God’s spiritual protection over children. “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3
Ask God for physical protection over children. “For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:11-12
Pray for children to turn to the Lord for protection. “The LORD’s name is a strong tower: the righteous run to him, and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10 WEBBE
Pray for God to keep a child from evil. “The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.” Psalm 121:7-8 WEBBE
Ask God for His presence to go with a child. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
A Parent’s (or Grandparent’s) Peace of Mind
Use these prayer points to pray through trusting God while away from a child. He is with them!
Pray to surrender your concerns to God. “In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Ask God for His true peace in all situations. “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.” John 14:27
Pray to keep a steadfast mind, and not dwell on your worries. “You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3
Ask God to help you remember that He is Lord of all, including your child or grandchild. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
Pray that when you do worry, you hand your worries over to God. “Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
Ask God to help you trust Him with your child or grandchild, even when you don’t understand a situation. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 WEBBE
A Legacy of Faith
Parents hope for their children to walk with God. Pray for this legacy of faith.
Pray for faithful parenting throughout the years. “These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Ask God to help you set an example of faith. “Having been reminded of the sincere faith that is in you, which lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, in you also.” 2 Timothy 1:5
Pray to be grateful and thankful to God in front of others, including your children. “We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.” Psalm 78:4 WEBBE
Ask God to help your children to walk with Him, no matter their age. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Pray to live a life that faithfully shows that your house serves the Lord. “If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15 WEBBE
Ask God to help you to teach the Word of God to your children. “The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same things to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2
Pray to share God with the next generation. “One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.” Psalm 145:4
