Finding the right craft to teach children about prayer takes time. A craft can be an important part of the learning experience for some children to reinforce what they have learned from the main lesson about prayer.
Whether you are looking for a prayer craft for your children, a Sunday School class, a homeschool activity, or even a fun craft for yourself, these ideas for prayer crafts can be a reminder of important aspects of prayer.
We’ve rounded up 21 great ideas for prayer crafts for kids to help you narrow down your options for the perfect activity for your intended audience. Some are free or low cost options.
Choosing the Right Prayer Craft for Kids
There are a lot of ideas on the internet, but not all of them are the right choice for you. Consider these factors.
- Good Theology. A craft can look super cute or interesting, but if it’s not in line with the Bible, it will accomplish the opposite of what you want it to do. This can be especially important if you are at a church and teaching other people’s children. Review the materials, and ask someone for help if you aren’t sure.
- Budget. It would be wonderful if there were unlimited funds to make crafts for yourself, with your kids, or at church. But that’s often not the reality. Figuring out your budget and sticking to it often means finding the right free or low-cost option.
- Time. Will you have time to make the craft? This is especially important if you are doing it as part of a class.
- Age and skills. If you choose a complex craft and a child isn’t equipped to use scissors or can’t read, then you might want to partially prepare the craft, plan on helping him or her, or consider a different craft.
- Longevity. What is the likelihood of this craft being kept beyond this month, this week, or even the day? There can be value in making crafts, even if they end up not being kept. But consider this, especially when purchasing more expensive materials.
Once you’ve thought over these issues, it’s time to take a look at these ideas for prayer crafts for kids!

Prayer Boards
Prayer Boards have been a Christian trend in the past few years, turning a bulletin board into a place where you can pin your requests to, reminding you to pray for them.
It gives artistic people a chance to engage with their prayer requests in an aesthetic way, while others like it for the structure of seeing their prayer requests in one place.
Our sister site, Hope Filled Faith, has written an article on Prayer Board Ideas that can be really useful in getting more information on what a prayer board is and different examples of a prayer board.
A prayer board is usually a bulletin board with space for prayer requests, answered prayers, Bible verses, and decorations, a visual representation of what you are praying for.
Here’s a picture of what a prayer board might look like. This one was designed for an adult.
Prayer boards can be easy and meaningful crafts when you add a printable kit (for the prayer board headers or titles, and other decorations) to a bulletin board.
There are printable kits in our Etsy shop that you can buy, including ones designed with kids in mind: the Shine Bright Edition and the Elementary Edition.
We’ll focus on some free resources from our Gumroad shop. The first is for a mini prayer board kit sampler.
This prayer board was made with a felt bulletin board from the Dollar Tree and a one page free printable Mini Prayer Board Kit Sampler from our Gumroad shop. (As well as some wooden push pins we had on hand.) The mini kit refers to the size of the bulletin board; the prayer board headers are sized for this very small bulletin board.
If you want more options for a smaller prayer board, you can buy the full kit here.
You can watch a video about making a mini prayer board on our YouTube channel.
For regular-sized bulletin boards, we also have some prayer board headers that are in a more fun font available for free.
If you want more options, visit the prayer printables section of our Etsy shop.

This prayer board is a fun concept. While it’s rather involved and you might not follow each step, it’s a good option for the large bulletin boards you might get inside a Sunday School classroom or Christian school classroom.
Prayer Box
Another option from our sister site, Hope Filled Faith, is to make prayer boxes. Prayer boxes are a way to keep track of prayer requests, filling out prayer requests on cards so you can remember to pray for them. You can also add Bible verses and inspirational content to your box as well.
Some people like them for the organizational aspect, while others like the symbolism of putting something in the box to leave it with God and not worry about it anymore.
For a low budget craft, save various boxes and use this free download of prayer requests cards from our Gumroad store.
Or, pick up the full kit and have a few more options to add Bible verses to your index card boxes, mint boxes, or larger boxes.
