Whether you’ve been getting ready for Vacation Bible school for months or for weeks, there are always going to be little details that need to be taken care of.
Giving students a VBS certificate at the end of your program is a great way to encourage them in faithful attendance in the future. Sometimes your Vacation Bible School curriculum will come with them, but often it’s an added cost to an already stretched budget for church resources.
Thankfully, there are several options for your perfect VBS certificate printable, including free and paid options.

Free VBS Certificate Printable Options
There are several options out there for a printable Vacation Bible School certificate. Some are printable .pdf files you can’t edit, some are editable .pdfs, some in Microsoft Word, and others are Canva templates.
Canva templates are customizable, and require a free or Pro account. A Pro account may be available for your church for free – check out the details of Canva for Nonprofits.
Church Ministry Help’s Free VBS Certificate Printable
We are offering our free VBS Certificate templates in our Gumroad Store. No payment is required for this item, just check out for free!
It comes in two formats, a non-editable printable pdf file that you print to fill out by hand, and an editable Canva template that you can customize, download, and print.
We made sure to include a black and white version, for ease of copying, or printing on your own paper without using a lot of color printer ink. Add a little color by printing on color paper you might have handy, like this.
If you haven’t used Canva before, check out our video for a quick demonstration of how we modified a similar certificate in Canva. You will need a free or Pro account. Canva might be best described to some as a Photoshop type program.
It doesn’t have the granular control of full-fledged Photoshop, but it does not seem to be as heavy on computer resources as Photoshop has been in the past. It also has helpful templates for many different types of projects.
Church Art Online VBS Certificate
Church Art Online has a free certificate recognizing Vacation Bible School attendance. It is in Microsoft Word format.
They also have another post that features more free templates for certificates. The certificate featured here is a Certificate of Appreciation in editable .PDF format and Microsoft Word format.
You will need to keep the Certificate of Appreciation title and church clipart, but you can change the rest of the information to suit your needs. This could easily be adapted for whatever participation certificate, attendance award, or memory verse award that you might need.
Colorful Certificates of Recognition
123Homeschool4Me has 6 different colorful designs of a certificate of recognition. While not specific to Vacation Bible School, they can be very useful for a variety of children’s ministry events, including Sunday School or Children’s Church.

My Fashionable Designs has a fun VBS Participation Award Printable on her blog. She also has many different types of certificate templates editable in Corjl available for purchase in her Etsy shop.
Children’s Ministry Deals VBS Completion Certificate
This free item in the Children’s Ministry Deals store is a Certificate of Completion with a brightly colored border. They also have other free VBS tools, like a free VBS Prayer Checklist and a free VBS Invitation Coloring Page, a fun VBS church flyer to invite other kids.
VBS Certificate Printable Ideas for Specific Vacation Bible School Curriculums
While most Vacation Bible School curriculum sell you paper certificates, or might include them in a resource CD or digital download pack with other print and social media graphics, there don’t seem to be readymade free printable VBS certificates for specific VBS themes.
One idea is to add the theme’s free clipart that is sometimes available to one of the certificates above. It would be easy enough to do in Canva or one of the Word templates.
Here are links to specific free Vacation Bible School clip art and logos. Some will have several options, while others might just have one or two. Be sure to also check the CD or digital media kit that came with your Vacation Bible School kit if it is available to you.

VBS Certificate Printable Options Available for Purchase
Again, if you’ve got a VBS kit that you’ve already paid for, be sure to check the digital resources there. However, some VBS curricula only include samples of the paper certificates and would like you to order more paper certificates. It’s your prerogative if that is your preference and if your budget allows it.
If you’ve been tasked with “Find some sort of VBS certificate for our last VBS program!,” then finding a printable one is probably the best idea. If none of the free options suit your needs, one of these choices from Etsy might.
It’s recommended to download your purchases on your computer, instead of through the Etsy app. Downloads of digital products offered on Etsy don’t always work on a smartphone.
